Our Committee

  • Jim Buhler

Jim is our Community Manager. He recently finished his Master’s in moral philosophy, handing in a thesis on S-risks. Jim used to run EA France, and has conducted research on various longtermist topics (some of it posted on the EA Forum).

  • James Lester

James is a third-year undergrad in economics at Emmanuel, and our President. He first got involved with EA Cambridge as a Fresher, through the Intro Fellowship, and since then has helped the committee run a number of events and programmes. After his degree, he’s considering pursuing an EA-motivated research career, focusing on safeguarding humanity’s long-term future.

  • Olivia Benoit

Olivia primarily runs Cambridge Existential Risks Initiative but is also involved in the activities of EA Cambridge. She just finished her Master’s in economic & social history during which she researched historical ideas about the future. EA-related interests of hers include longtermism, existential risk, and forecasting.

  • Talha Javed

Talha is an engineering undergraduate, and has some research experience in the aerospace industry. He recently discovered the idea and movement of effective altruism. He now helps up organize events and welcome students interested in what we do.

  • Robert Harling

Robert is the Director of the Meridian Office. He is also a former Community Manager of EA Cambridge and still supports our group and its activities. Robert used to work as an economic consultant in London, and ran the EA Warwick group while a student there. He loves meeting and chatting with people interested in having a big positive impact on the world.

A significant part of the work we put into running EA Cambridge is made possible thanks to Open Philantrophy’s financial support.

We also greatly benefit from being able to use the Meridian Office as a venue for our events as well as a co-working space for our committee and other dedicated members of our community.
